Hello my name is Holly (I’m the intelligent one of the bunch) and I’m here to lend a helping paw with Holly’s Dog-a-Blog.
I’m going to give you a blow by blow account of life today in our furever home and an insight into our hopes and dreams to help those in not such a happy place.
We want to make as many new anipals as we can to spread the WOOF and give as much WOVE as we can.

It’s Valentine’s Day and look what mum did with our Harrington’s Training Treats – bless. I don’t know what all the fuss is about, their heart shape all year round and they always taste the same, we woove um. Because of our dietary requirements to try and keep our skin problems to a minimum, once again like our main food, they contain No artificial colours or flavours, No dairy, No soya and No added wheat. They taste pretty yummy too. Rich in Liver – yum yum, Cereal free – Yippeeeeee, with natuaral antioxidants they keep all three of us very very yappy.
When out walking we get two treats when someone does a poo. This is because we have to wait while mum clears it up. That’s two treats each per poo. That could be upto six treats each if we’re all out on a walk together. Mum has a pouch full of treats in her pocket so we’re usually putty in her hands.
“Yes please mum, we want some more”
We choose a Natural Dog Food as it’s the best for us, but don’t take our bark for it check it out for your self.

No matter what, mum does try to ensure that we get at least one good long walk aday. As I can walk for england, I quite often get taken out on my own and mum and I have a good long stroll which gives mum the opportunity to collect some discarded can’s for her Canathon Collection. The boy’s like to sniff alot. As it stimulates the brain, mum lets them sniff a fair bit – they need all the help they can get.

We still have snow but the novelty is wearing off, even for Toby who is a huge fan. He has taken to his bed deciding to stay this side of the glass and keeping warm.
However, mum is in the Dog House. It’s mid morning already and Toby’s bed has still not been made. Toby is having to use the other side of the sofa instead, with a restricted view of the garden. How is he to keep guard working in these sub standard conditions.

As you can see we still have snow and Toby is making the most of it. Boy’s will be Boy’s. Personally I can take it or leave it, no matter what the weather it will not stop me from barking at the workmen next door. If nothing else all this running in the snow and barking at workmen is keeping us fit and I think mum has noticed – we have had a few more treats than usual – what’s she up to?

Mum is in an artist mood, so I’m keeping my head down. It’s bad enough that she got a picture of me the other day and has now put a pair of specs on it. I don’t need specs to make me look intelegent. Anyway, Toby loves to pose and was caught napping, as usual. Mum had come across some lovely words called “The Dog’s Plea” (author unknown) and made a display of the picture and the words. In my opinion – it does’nt look bad. Mum printed it on photo paper and it’s now up on the wall. Your can check it out for yourself in the Waggy Gallery.

As predicted we had a Big Dump overnight and it looks like it’s here to say for a day or so. Toby thinks it’s great and did several lapses of the garden just after breakfast. Benny wasn’t quite so confident but took his lead from Big Bro. He soon learnt how to use his nose as a snow plough. I’m not as crazy as the boy’s – I’m older and wiser – I enjoy the snow but I’m not so stupid as to be caught on camera.

Dad has been keeping a close eye on the weather reports. We have already had a sprinkle of snow but we are expecting a heavy dump overnight according to the weather report on the telly. Knowing that there was a short supply of dog treats in the house mum needed to take action. As mum said “there is no way I’m being snowed in and run out of dog treats”. Unfortunately mum’s usual store was in short supply otherwise we would not find ourselves in this situation. Dad had checked out the internet for stockists and off mum went. OK mum had to pay a little more but she thinks we’re worth it. Job done – a draw full of Harringtons Teeth & Gum Treats for bedtime and Training Treats.

Mum likes to make good use of her time so therefore the weekly shop took a little longer than usual this week. Mum can spot a Drink Can from twenty paces and on previous trips to our local supermarket she had noticed the amount of cans that had just been discarded by the roadside leading to the store. With her 2012 Canathon in mind she spent 30 minuets collecting the cans and as you can see there were a fair few. Mum came home happy, the can total has increased, the road leading to the supermarket looks a bit more tidy but unfortunately Toby and Benny didn’t seem that impressed. I think they were looking for something a little more tasty.

Mum wants us to participate in an idea she’s had, to do a promotional photo shoot for the dog food we eat. What’s the saying: Never work with children and animals. Would you like to tell her, no please leave it to us. Does it look like we’re playing ball. Words of incouragement from dad mean nothing, although he does give a very good tummy tickle.
OK – but this is the best your getting from me.

If you hadn’t already guested we are all West Highland White Terriers (some of us a little more pure than the others) but due to our breed there is always the posibility that we would suffer from what the vets call Westie Skin. The cause of this skin problem can be numerous. Generally, dog allergies are of five types: flea allergies, food allergies, contact allergies, bacteria allergies and atopy and a dog can suffer from one or all of these conditions. It is due to the hard work of mum and dad that we manage to keep this problem to a minimum. I suffer the most and the boy’s have shown symptons from time to time but on a whole it’s under control.
What’s the Answer – well that we don’t know, as I have already mentioned, the exact cause is hard to determine. However a change in our diet has helped greatly. We have gone from tinned dog meat and biscuit to Harrington’s Complete. Why you may ask. Well having done a lot of research mum started to look at the small print on the labels of our food and found that we where being fed a high percentage of cereal. My mate Toby had never shown any signs of skin problems but after a while on tinned dog meat and biscuit his skin was becoming sensative to the touch. With nothing to lose mum changed our food to Harrington’s as it has a) No dairy, No soya and No added wheat. b) No artificial colours or flavours. c) Combines nutrient rich kelp, citrus antioxidants and omega 6 & 3 fatty acids. d) Added yeasts to help digestion.
Mum is very much a meat and biscuit girl so we have with Harrington’s a meat product with the following: a) Hypo-Allergenic & Low Allergen b) No Wheat Gluten c) No unhealthy Addatives d) No Dairy Products or Eggs e) No Soya or other fillers
Does that all sound really healthy or what.
We love our new food. Mum ensures we have the correct amount and we are weighed each month. Toby had been a bit chubby but with this new food and regular exercise we are all now very fit and healthy westies. Paws crossed we only see the vet once a year for our annual check up.

Hi Holly
Thanks for the information on Harrington’s dog food. It is one I buy for my Holly from time to time, but hadn’t realised that it was healthier than some of the others.
I think I must have been extremely lucky in that none of my 4 Westies has had skin problems, but it is always good to know of a product that can help to keep them at bay.
Lots of woofs and kisses from Holly the westie – aged 6.
FUN! I’m so ectixed for you guys, dogs are awesome and he looks like a particularly cute one Glad you got him at such a great age too!
